Synopsis by Alice Day
In a region where many inhabitants maintain a meager existence, plagued by periods of famine and drought, a continuing civil war in Sudan between Islamic forces and black Africans causes further hardship. Allegations of torture and other mistreatment of non-Muslim residents have raised questions from Western powers. In addition, militant Muslim actions, including the possible training of personnel for conflicts elsewhere, have been reported. In Sudan: The Harsher Face of Islam, the growing concerns regarding methods used to spread Islamic teachings are addressed.
