Synopsis by Janiss Garza
This film was part of producer Samuel Goldwyn's "Eminent Authors" series and was based on the book by Basil King. To keep up appearances, Henry Guion (Charles Clary) has embezzled $4,000. Peter Davenant, the adopted son of Guion's old friends, magnanimously offers to cover the loss. But Guion's daughter Olivia (Naomi Childers) objects because she thinks that he has an ulterior motive. Finally, to save her father's reputation, she agrees that it is all right for Davenant to give her father the money. Then her fiancée, Colonel Rupert Ashley (W. Lawson Butt), arrives from England and insists that he cannot marry her unless he pays back the money to Davenant. This causes a lot of trouble, especially when Ashley figures out that Olivia has fallen in love with Davenant. To save her engagement, Davenant offers to bow out. Ashley, however, knows when he is beaten and graciously steps aside.
