Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In this highly energetic comedy, a beleaguered Swedish alcoholic has booked a rest-cure at an Icelandic detox center. However, when he gets off the plane in Rekjavic, a local man mistakes him for his sick friend's business associate who has come to the island to enjoy a good time with him. The poor Swede is effectively kidnapped by a host of boisterous, party-mad Icelanders, brought to an isolated salmon-fishing retreat and placed in the close company of the sick man's wife Stella. Isolated or not, the puzzled man is visited by a huge number of mischievous well-wishers, including some airline pilots involved in an illegal salmon-breeding scheme, a pack of Kiwanis partyers, and even his sick (but recovering) host, who is accompanied by his Danish mistress. He may have thought he was in need of a rest cure for his liver before, but after this vacation, he may need to take refuge in the loony bin.
