Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Telecast by ITV beginning in 1990 or thereabouts, the weekly British talent show Stars in Their Eyes was better than most such programs. On each episode, five nonprofessional contestants were afforded the opportunity to imitate their favorite pop singers. Each was given a cosmetic makeover by the series' own Glenda Wood (who earned several industry awards for her efforts), so that they would not only sound like their idols, but resemble them as well. The audience voted on the merits of each performer, with the finalists appearing later down the road in a special "live" telecast, with the viewers at home calling in their votes. Stars in Their Eyes also appeared in the form of a fundraising special, with genuine celebrities imitating their favorite performers.
