Synopsis by Hal Erickson
In keeping with the E! Entertainment cable network's ongoing obsession with celebrities of days gone by, the weekly Star Dates combines the format popularized by such series as Blind Date and elimiDATE with pop-culture nostalgia. On each episode, a onetime famous actor, singer, and/or comedian is sent out on a date with an unwary "civilian" partner, who is either thrilled at the prospect of his/her brush with fame or is disappointed with how bland and uninteresting certain celebs can be. Onetime Munsters regular Butch Patrick was the celebrity spotlighted in the first episode, while later subjects included The Love Boat's Jill Whelan, Diff'rent Strokes' Gary Coleman, The Facts of Life's Kim Fields, and even octogenarian comedienne Phyllis Diller. Star Dates premiered on December 15, 2002.
