Synopsis by Alice Day
This Discovery Channel series gives an overview of the many applications of space-age technology. Materials and instrumentation developed for use on the space shuttle and other spacecraft are adapted for industrial and medical purposes. Space Tech: From Flying Blind to Saving Species looks at how these advances are used to pinpoint distress calls in the open seas. In addition, satellites help in the war against malaria and other diseases caused by mosquitoes by tracking their populations. There is a visit to the area around the Kennedy Space Center, a protected zone for wildlife such as manatees and the bald eagle.
