The home-schooling trend is pointedly satirized in this typically irreverent episode of South Park. Rebecca and Mark, a pair of home-schooled children, win the South Park spelling bee. As a result, they want to attend public school, and Eric's mom buys him a "Hooked on Phonics Monkey" (who is eventually responsible for Kenny's demise). Kyle falls in love with Rebecca, a romance that surprisingly helps Mark gain acceptance. "Hooked on Phonics Monkey" first aired November 10, 1999, on Comedy Central.
