Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein
Featuring an all-star African-American cast that included Andrew S. Bishop, Ida Anderson, Emmit Anthony, Edna Morton, Monte Hawley, Shingzie Howard, and E.G. Tatum, this silent horror melodrama about a man who spends a night in a haunted house (on a bet), was criticized in some quarters for depicting African-Americans "drinking, carousing, and crap shooting." Produced and directed by near-legendary black filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, Son of Satan was furthermore banned outright by several communities objecting to its title alone.
