Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The six-part British miniseries Something in Disguise was based on the 1969 novel by Elizabeth Jane Howard. Inasmuch as Howard had written the book not long after her marriage to fellow author Kingsley Amis, it should not be surprising that the two central characters, Herbert (Richard Vernon) and May (Ursula Howells), were technically newlyweds -- even though it was their second trip to the altar, after having broken up a few years earlier. Elements crucial to the outcome of the seriocomic story included a group of diffident Oxonians, a homicidally inclined Colonel, and an enterprising cat. Something in Disguise was telecast by Thames Television in 1982.
