Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Director Sherif Arafa and star Adel Imam were already the targets of protest by Islamic fundamentalists in Egypt for their previous works, and this comedy has put more fuel onto the fire of the extremists' outrage. The story concerns the attempts of Cairo policeman Magdi (Adel Imam) to investigate a number of incidents which he begins to believe are related. As the investigations proceeds, he is horrified to discover that something is making the men of Cairo impotent (including himself), and nobody in the government or the citizenry is willing to admit that there is a problem. Indeed, his attempts to rectify the situation run headlong into a government cover-up. While the film contains heavily underscored political messages of import in Egyptian life, it is primarily a comedy, and has fine cinematography, and plenty of local color.
