Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The title of Paul Gray's short documentary is both metonymical and literal: the "skeins" in question refer to the strands of yarn used as part of the knitting fad that swept through Scotland in the early years of the 21st century. Gray uses screen time to both comment on and explore this fad, as it materializes in such locations as pubs and public buses; he also poses key questions about the meaning of this craze for contemporary Scottish society.
