Synopsis by Mark Deming
An artist seeks both romantic and creative companionship in this drama adapted from the novel by Jachym Topol. Potok (Jakub Zich) is a designer in his early thirties who works for an independent drama company. Potok is dissatisfied with his work and his life, and has come to view almost everything around him with a sense of ennui and disgust. Potok's view of the world around him becomes less bleak when he meets Cerna (Verica Nedeska), a beautiful woman with whom he feels an emotional and intellectual connection. Potok and Cerna decide to abandon life in the city for a more pastoral lifestyle, but they find themselves surrounded by people who don't understand their creative outlook and make little secret of their dislike of the new couple. Potok doesn't take well to his new surroundings and falls into an emotional tailspin which threatens to ruin his new relationship. Sestra (aka Sister) was the first feature film from Vit Pancir, who previously made a name for himself in animation and directing music videos.
