Synopsis by Jonathan Crow

After the wild popularity of Yoshimitsu Morita's Shitsurakuen in 1997, there was something of a mini-boom in films about passion in the autumn years. This melodrama directed by Shinichiro Sawai is one such film. Mibu (Tetsuya Watari) is an executive at a construction company who has grown disillusioned with his marriage. Tae (played by screen icon Sayuri Yoshinaga) is a widowed ikebana who frequently sports a kimono. They meet in an elevator for the first time in 20 years, and Mibu is immediately struck. He pursues her and she eventually acquiesces. Soon, the two are making passionate love in her elegant home in Kamakura. While traveling to Kyoto with her, he discovers a gorgeous, unpeopled valley and plans to build his dream home with his new love there. Unfortunately, Mibu has a heart condition that could kill him at any minute.
