Based on a 1921 magazine story by the prolific Wilbur C. Tuttle, this silent Western starred William Fairbanks in the title role, as a lawman trying to protect an elderly sheep rancher (James Welch) and his daughter (Florence Gilbert) from being harrassed by the local cattlemen. Falsely accused of murdering the old man, Sheriff Fairbanks manages to bring the real killer, cattle rancher Ashton Dearholt, and his henchman (William White) to justice. Gilbert and Dearholt were married at the time. The Sheriff of Sun-Dog was the second of six inexpensive Fairbanks oater produced by Benjamin F. Wilson's Verwilla Film Corp. and directed by Louis King, the lesser known brother of Henry King.
