Synopsis by Hal Erickson

"A Melodrama in Three Acts," this Vitagraph production was written for the screen by Marguerite Bertsch. The villain of the piece is Mark Stetson (L. Rogers Lytton), a politician who has eliminated his principal competition, the honest Mr. Brandon (Harry T. Morey), by sending Brandon off to prison on a phony charge. Also besmirched through Stetson's machinations are Brandon's with (Rose E. Tapley) and daughter Annette (Anita Stewart). When these three "shadows" from Stetson's past return unexpectedly, he pulls strings to bring further disgrace upon them. Annette pleads for Stetson to cease and desist, whereupon he promises to do so in return for "certain favors." Fortunately, the villain and his slinky accomplice Helen (Julia Swayne Gordon) are brought to grief before any further damage can be wrought upon the Brandon family.
