Synopsis by Kristie Hassen

Adapted from a tale from The Arabian Nights, this Iranian feature mixes moral commentary, folklore and black comedy. The victim of a practical joke, a hunchback in a travelling performance group falls dead, and his frightened friends abandon the body near the store of a drug dealer. When it is discovered that on his body is a list of names in a drug-smuggling ring, the corpse is passed along between various parties. Written and directed by Farrokh Gaffary, Shabe Quzi/The Hunchback's Night was shown at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival and received considerable praise.
