Synopsis by Alice Duncan

The Sensational 70's documentary series offers viewers a look at "the best and worst" moments of the decade -- presenting excerpts from film and television to review the politics, significant events, developments in science, technology, sports, and entertainment of the time. Memorable events from 1972 that are covered in this program include: President Richard Nixon's visit to China and meeting with Chairman Mao Zedong; the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT) at which the United States and the Soviet Union agreed to limit antiballistic missiles; the arms race; the "Bloody Sunday" incident, at a civil rights march in Derry, Ireland, when British paratroopers opened fire and 13 people died; terrorism at the Munich Olympic games, when an Arab extremist group took Israeli athletes hostage and 16 people died; Richard Nixon's landslide victory over George McGovern in the presidential election; the death of former president Harry S. Truman; and American Bobby Fischer's victory over Boris Spassky in the world chess championship tournament.
