To put his theories of "scientific farming" into practice, young Chet Wells (Val Paul) purchases a tumble-down farm from stingy Deacon Todd (Frank McQuarrie). Unfortunately, Chet's experiment fails, and he and his mother are evicted from the premises by the ill-tempered Deacon. Swearing revenge, Chet leaves for parts unknown, much to the dismay of his girlfriend Emily Burke (Myrtle Gonzales), whose father Major Burke (George Hernandez) is a longtime enemy of the villainous Todd. On the night of Chet's departure, Burke takes a shot at Todd, apparently striking the man dead in the swampland surrounding his property. Chet is suspected of the crime and arrested, but Emily, at first unaware that her father is the guilty party, helps to prove Chet's innocence. All ends well when the Deacon shows up very much alive: Major Burke's stray bullet completely missed its target and hit one of his own cows!
