20th Century Fox screenwriters Harry Tugend and George Bradshaw must have pondered long and hard over the obvious difficulties of incorporating figure skating sequences into a Sonja Henie musical set in Sunny California. The brainstorming, alas, resulted in one of the lamest excuses this side of a Disney cartoon. Sitting by her swimming pool, Sonja daydreams what would happen if the temperatures miraculously dropped below freezing. Aside from Henie's ill-placed figure skating extravaganzas, Second Fiddle should have been a funny lampoon over David O. Selznick's legendary search for Scarlett O'Hara, but Sonja, unfortunately, is no Carole Lombard, and the joke quickly turns sour.
