Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Former pinku eiga director Shun Nakahara follows up on his acclaimed Sakura no Sono with this quiet character study about five guests staying in a remote island resort hotel during the off-season. One couple consists of high school paramours venturing off on a romantic weekend after their exams, the other is the Fujimuras -- a middle-aged couple who married after an eight-year tryst. While the former couple wrestles with the urgencies of youthful sexuality, the latter's passions have cooled considerably since their nuptials. The fifth vacationer is Ayako (Satori Tsuchiya), a beautiful lass who is regrouping after turning down her boyfriend's proposal. She and the middle-aged husband (Kazumi Shiomi) have an intimate late-night chat over drinks which drives his wife -- who, being the other woman in a different context, understands his wandering eye -- crazy with jealousy. This prompts Mrs. Fujimura to have a fling on the beach with the teenaged lad, who is frustrated with his sweetheart's frigidity. Will Ayako put a further rift within the couples or will she heal them?
