Review by Paul Gaita

In a world-class bit of miscasting, the preternaturally chipper Connie Stevens stars as a tough and sexy police detective (who's amusing not nicknamed Scorchy) in this poorly made crime thriller. Stevens' feisty cop must go undercover as a flighty socialite to infiltrate a heroin smuggling operation led by suave antiques dealer Cesare Danova. At the same time, she must contend with loose cannon killer William Smith, who plans to steal the latest shipment at any cost. Stevens tries gamely, but possesses neither the grit nor the earthy sexiness to pull off the part (despite some discreet nude scenes and a bedroom romp with Greg Evigan, in his first screen appearance). It really isn't her fault, though; no actress could've delivered on this role when faced with director Hikmet Avedis' cliché-riddled script and a nightmarish wardrobe. Avedis manages to pull off a pair of action sequences: one is a chase between Smith on a motorcycle and Stevens in a sort of midget funny car, and the other a rooftop punch-out with Smith and Danova. But he's all thumbs in the straight drama department, and the shoot-out finale is confusingly filmed and inappropriately downbeat. Fans of the sexy '70s lady crimefighter subgenre should pass on Scorchy and seek out Pam Grier in Coffy instead.
