Synopsis by Alice Day

Affable host Alan Alda checks out Silas, the virtual dog at MIT's Media Lab as Scientific American Frontiers: Inventing the Future investigates what futuristic devices are being developed. The topics in this episode include so-called smart agents that will help individuals organize their lives in amazing ways. Everyday objects, such as cars, will have "smart" capabilities, taking an active role in preventing accidents. Wearable computers will be commonplace, and people will think nothing of devices embedded in shoes or other clothing.
