Wolfgang (Werner Tritzschler) is looking for a job but really wants to work in other countries for awhile. Brigitte (Ulrike Krumbiegel) works in the furniture-sales business but has an opportunity to study for other types of work. The two meet and fall in love, and then one day Brigitte discovers she is pregnant -- a fact that destabilizes their relationship for awhile. Wolfgang eventually joins the East German military to see the world, and Brigitte has suffered an abortion. Now both have to reconsider their relationship -- and how much they can or cannot sacrifice to stay together.
