Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Originally a children's program produced through the auspices of BBC2's Schools Television, Scene was a weekly, 30-minute anthology of controversial, thought-provoking original plays, dealing with contemporary sociopolitical issues. The program proved to be of sufficient quality to transcend its Schools Television origins, earning prime-time rebroadcast from its inception in 1969 until its cancellation over a decade later. According to most historians, virtually every important actor, writer, and director in the British television industry contributed to Scene at one time or another. Several of the surviving episodes were still making the rental rounds well into the early 21st century.
