Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Filmed in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sarie Marais manages to pack quite a lot into its 10-minute running time. Set in a Boer POW camp, the film concentrates on a group of Dutch prisoners as they wearily pass the time under the watchful eye of their British captors. One of the inmates, played by Billy Mathews, lifts his voice in song with the popular Dutch patriotic tune "Sarie Marais". His enthusiasm catches on like wildfire with the other prisoners, giving them hope that perhaps life isn't so bad after all. A few technical glitches aside, Sarie Marais is a respectable effort from the infant South African film industry.
