Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Director José Luis Garci's lavishly produced period war drama Sangre de Mayo (The Blood of May) travels back to the spring of 1808 to dramatize the events that transpired on May 2nd of that year. During the sequence of events in question, the people of Spain launched a courageous and valiant uprising against Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte - the first of several alternately known as The War of Independence and The Peninsular War.
