Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Ivan Kaye starred in this British cop series as Sam Sterne, a divorced Jewish detective living and working in North London. Known as "Sam Saturday" because he was absent from his job on that particular day, the hero worked side by side with his gentile partner, Detective Sgt. Jim Butler (Peter Armitage). Frequently, the crooks that Sam ran up against were not nearly as fearsome as his mother Rita (Doreen Mantle), with whom he shared a modest flat. Created by Alvin Rakoff and filmed by Cinema Verity, the seven hour-long episodes of Sam Saturday were seen courtesy of London Weekend Television in 1992.
