Far too many American women are trapped in abusive relationships with men who cannot learn how to manage their anger, frustrations, and feelings of insecurity. This program looks at some shelter programs that offer women the chance to escape from the physical abuse they're enduring. According to this video, an American woman is physically abused by her lover or husband every 12 seconds. The stories of three women help illustrate the complicated reasons why so many women find it hard to leave these negative relationships. Additional time is spent looking at how some women living in a shelter with their children are starting to reclaim their lives.
