Synopsis by Hal Erickson

No sooner had Alain Resnais' documentary Van Gogh hit American movie screens than the Swedish Rubens was likewise distributed in the U.S. Produced by the Swedish Minister of Public Information, the film was directed by Henri Storck, a talented artisan whose career didn't quite reach the same heights as Resnais'. Rubens' paintings share screen time with location shots of the places he lived and worked. The narration was by Paul Henning, who was not the same person who later produced TV's Beverly Hillbillies. Rubens runs 50 all-too-brief minutes.
