This video is a tape of a lecture by Rosamond Bernier at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her popular lectures are sold out months in advance, as she draws upon her personal experiences with some of the great artists of the twentieth century. In this lecture, she talks on her friendship with Pablo Picasso, whom many critics feel was the greatest artist of the 20th century. Certainly, Picasso was a major influence in painting, sculpture, graphic art, and ceramics. Born in 1881 in Spain, Picasso began producing art at an early age, and experimented in a variety of styles. He may be best remembered for his work in the Cubist school of art. The insights of Bernier -- who founded the monthly art magazine L'Oeil -- add human interest to what we know of Picasso, an artistic giant of his time.
