Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Many regard concert pianist and music scholar Rosalyn Tureck as one of the most vital 20th century interpreters of Johann Sebastian Bach. Produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Tureck's 1913 birth, this program brings into a single release a pair of films featuring the artist. It opens with a 1995 St. Petersburg piano recital that features such Bach compositions as Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue (BWV 989) , Adagio in G Major (BWV 968) and Partita No. 2 in C Minor (BWV 826); next up is Tureck's lecture on Embellishment of Bach. Delivered and filmed in 2002, it finds Tureck playing musical excerpts from The Italian Concerto, The Goldberg Variations and more. It took place on July 13, 2002 at the Williamstown Festival in Massachusetts.
