Synopsis by Michael Hastings

Another of artist Michel Auder's video-diary records of objects, persons, and places, Rooftops and Other Scenes represents a collection of urban images that caught Auder's eye in the '90s. Juxtaposing the highbrow with the low, Auder forces the viewer to draw comparisons between events and scenes that he or she might not otherwise link together: prostitutes in the street and socialites at a gallery opening; birds-eye views of pedestrians with apartment-dwellers. As usual, Rooftops was one of Auder's loosely-edited pieces that served as fodder for other work before being shown on its own.
