Synopsis by Nathan Southern

The home video release Rock Milestones: Green Day - The Singles examines how Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Al Sobrante (later replaced by Tre Cool) formed the underground California punk sensation Green Day, then joined forces with record producer and promoter Larry Livermore to turn the group into one of the hottest and most electrifying rock acts on the American alternative music scene in the early nineties, with a string of consecutive hit singles including "Macy's Day Parade," "Paper Lanterns," "Basket Case," "American Idiot," "Brain Stew," (all of which are excerpted here) and many more. The program features interviews with Livermore and a host of rock journalists, who reflect on the Green Day phenomenon and discuss how the band used their singles to shape the contemporary musical landscape. The program also intercuts extremely rare video and audio clips of Green Day in concert, many culled from television and radio broadcasts.
