The SDF-1 begins its exile in space, and the civilian populace tries to adjust to their new reality. As Minmei gears up for the premiere of her first movie, she arranges for a front-row seat for Rick in the cinema. Through some mixed signals, he never quite gets the message -- and on the night of the premiere, Rick watches from a distance as the movie unspools. The Zentraedi, too, are watching, and having no concept of fantasy interpret the kung-fu film as reality. When they see Kyle launching energy beams with his hands, they fear it might be a manifestation of protoculture and immediately report to Dolza. Rick leaves halfway through the movie, unable to watch a scene where Kyle kisses Minmei. Meanwhile, Khyron launches an attack and the SDF-1 undergoes a transformation. Rick and Lisa, who have run into each other outside the theater, end up trapped together in the ship before they can get to a shelter. As the two get to talking, they discover that they left the cinema for the same reason, attracted as they are to Minmei and Kyle. When the attack ends and the ship returns to its normal configuration, Rick and Lisa walk through the deserted city streets together.
