This first-rate color documentary of Africa has spectacular scenes of a volcanic eruption and a trek to the never-before filmed source of the mighty Nile River. Animals live and die along with natives, as all hunt prey to insure their survival in this beautiful but unforgiving terrain. When a drought threatens all living things, Masai tribesmen quench their thirst by opening a vein on the neck of a cow and drinking the blood. Pygmies are shown living as their ancestors have for thousands of years, unaware of the sweeping technological changes of the outside world. The film crew spent over five years collecting material for this feature that ranges in scenes from the desert floor to over 16,000 feet up the glaciers of the great continent.
