A young wanderer travelling across the Netherlands and Germany in search of a friend, but who instead finds independence, provides the focus of this Dutch-German film which was shot in black and white. Nele lives on the streets of Amsterdam with a small band of street people is first seen rummaging around the garbage for food. Impetuously, she suddenly leaves the caravan and with her dog, sets off to Germany to find a friend. On her way, she travels to Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, and East Friesland. It is winter and her only company comes from an aged relative and a young student.
