Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

A gifted American soccer player gets the once-in-a-lifetime chance to play professionally in Europe, gradually working his way up to the English Premier League through nothing more than hard work and total dedication. Fresh out of college and ready to take the world of soccer by storm, Jay DeMerit failed to make the professional leagues in the U.S., and quickly set his sights on Europe. There, soccer is just as big as the NFL or college football in America, and the fans are known to be fiercely passionate. At the time he went to Europe to pursue his dream DeMerit was just 21, and lived a sparse existence while training constantly. In this documentary, we watch as DeMerit starts out scoring goals in Sunday park leagues, and steadily advances through the ranks. Eventually, he achieves his coveted goal of playing in the English Premier League, and he also becomes a member of the U.S. national squad. Interviews with various soccer players from both sides of the pond help to tell DeMerit's incredible tale of perseverance.
