MGM house director Richard Thorpe began his long career helming low-budget silent oaters for producer Lester F. Scott, Jr.'s Action Pictures. In Ride 'Em High, starring Scott discovery Buddy Roosevelt, Jim Demming arrives in Happy Valley in search of the villain who caused his father's death. Arriving in the middle of a family feud between the Demmings and the Allens, Jim sides with Betty Allen (Olive Hasbrouck) against his own relative, Paul Demming (George Magrill), who is out to ruin the Allens. Jim offers to help the Allens pay off their debt by riding in the rodeo, but Paul rigs the contest. When the villain discovers that his own father has willed the Demming property to Jim, he besieges the lawyer to destroy the evidence. The advocate refuses and instead tells Jim the truth. Paul, who also caused the death of Jim's father, is ultimately killed by one of his own men, leaving Jim and Betty free to marry.
