Synopsis by Laura Mahnken
Iwo Jima was one of the most bloody and deadly battles to take place during World War II. It was here that 27,000 American and Japanese soldiers died in battle, while 20,000 more Americans were wounded. In fact one-third of all Marines killed during World War II died here in Iwo Jima. It is important to revisit the 36-day battle and pay homage to the fallen soldiers. Return to Iwo Jima recalls the battle eloquently and poignantly. Surviving veterans on both sides of the battle are reunited as they pay tribute to their fallen soldiers. Produced by Oscar and Emmy Award-winner Arnold Shapiro.
