Synopsis by Robert Firsching

Michael Loggan's novel Leyton et les Chatelaines was the basis for this uneven spy film from cult filmmaker Jesus Franco. Eddie Constantine stars as Dan Leyton, an American secret agent investigating a spy ring in Istanbul. The ring is working out of a women's boarding house, so Dan's girlfriend Marion (Anita Hoffer) is also sent in undercover as a teacher. Janet Spokane (Diana Lorys), the shrewd wife of the Colonel in charge of the Espionage Service, tries to seduce Dan to throw him off the trail, but the dashing agent finally cracks the mystery. Filmed in Istanbul, Residencia para Espias is a good-looking film, but suffers from a tedious plot and too many bad jokes. Tota Alba is funny as the overbearing Commander Pendleton, and Franco regulars Dina Loy, Marcelo Arroita Jauregui, and Antonio J. Escribano also appear. One version features a dream sequence with Howard Vernon and Wolfgang Preiss.
