Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Based on the best-selling book by New York firefighter Dennis Smith, the ABC special Report From Ground Zero combines documentary footage of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and its aftermath, with eyewitness accounts from members of the FDNY, the NYPD, the Port Authority, and the families of the victims. Wisely avoiding editorial comment or superfluous narration, the special (like the book) allows the images and the witnesses to speak for themselves. Also on hand is David Rockefeller, one of the principal developers of the World Trade Center, who painfully but eloquently explains why the Twin Towers went down so rapidly and so thoroughly. Report From Ground Zero was one of several programs broadcast in and around the first anniversary of 9/11.
