Synopsis by Mark Deming
A handful of would-be tricksters learn one of the oldest games in the book in this short subject from filmmakers Jeanne Faust and Jorn Zehe. On the outskirts of Paris, a handful of Romanian expatriates are watching a man playing a variation on the old street-corner game Three Card Monte as he shuffles three wooden discs back and forth and challenges those watching to pick the one marked with an X on the bottom. But we soon discover he's not trying to cheat passers-by out of their money, but rather teaching this venerable con game. Repeter Alba Negra was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
