Hosted by Richard Bacon (whose name was incorporated in the series' "official" title), the British game show Rent Free chose its contestants from various apartment roommates in the United Kingdom. On each episode, two teams of four "roomies" competed as individuals in a succession of computer-game challenges, then were reteamed for a winner-take-all final round. Whosoever won the game was awarded with a year's free rent in a luxurious apartment, while the humiliated losers were forced to look on from the mezzanine of the TV studio. Seen exclusively on British digital TV, Rent Free debuted in January 2002.
