Synopsis by Cammila Collar
Drawing together elements of history, science fiction, fantasy, and film noir, Reign: The Conqueror re-imagines the life of Alexander the Great. Based on the novel by Hiroshi Aramata, this anime proposes that Alexander's massive role on the world stage was prophesied by a shaman before his birth, who also predicted that Alexander would one day bring about the Earth's destruction. Reign: The Conqueror's uniquely styled world and characters were designed by Peter Chung, the Korean animator responsible for Aeon Flux. The series met with several difficulties in seeking its American release including troubles with dubbing, ownership, and editing. As a result, some versions of Reign have earned a reputation for being confusing and hard to follow.
