This Laotian film, one of the few survivors of the dozen films made in that country, provides viewers with a rare and fascinating look at life in a little known country. The story, is set in the early 1970's when pro-Communist troops were beating the U.S. supported royal Laotian army. It takes place in a tiny northern town in the Vientiane province. The government has decided to add troops to the village and use it as a main base in its battle against the guerrillas. The tale is told from the viewpoint of Bua Deng a young girl whose fiance, Man, left her in favor of joining the Red Army. At her mother's urging Bua Deng ends up marrying Siang, a capitalist. The film reaches is climax when Man's troops attack the village. He saves Bua Deng from her stepfather who killed Siang and then attempts to rape her in the forest.
