Based on The Kid's Last Fight by George Worthington Yates, Jr., this pleasant silent Western was but one in a series of oaters teaming strapping, tight-lipped Tom Tyler with budding juvenile star Frankie Darro (later Darrow). Real-life boxer Al Kaufman played Battling Jack Riley, a fighter who picks the Western Morris ranch as his new training quarters. The foreman, Tom Buckley (Tyler), who is in love with Frances Morris (Dorothy Dunbar), takes an immediate dislike to the boastful Easterner, and when Frances' twin brother, Gerald (Stanley Taylor), confesses to theft, Buckley is only too happy to fight Riley for the missing money. Riley has Gerald kidnapped on the way to the bank and uses the young man to lure his sister to a deserted cabin. Tom and his kid brother Frankie (Darro) arrive just in time to save Frances from a fate worse than death. Well-made but economic, the Tyler-Darro Westerns were the bread-and-butter for poverty row company FBO. But the new production head, Joseph P. Kennedy (father of the future president), had pretensions and soon scrapped the studio's lucrative Western unit in favor of expensive (and, for the most part, unsuccessful) Gloria Swanson star vehicles.
