Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This confusing reenactment of the life and death of "Mad Monk" Rasputin stars Max Neufield (who also directed) in the title role. Many of the orgy scenes, obviously designed as highlights, only added to the clutter, with too many bearded characters in identical costumes crowding the screen. The climax, in which Rasputin steadfastly refuses to die despite the strenuous efforts of his assassins, was arguably the best scene in the picture. The Russian royal family makes a few token appearances, while Renati Renee delivers a dignified (under the circumstances) performance as a slinky secret agent for the aristocrats. American prints of Rasputin were severely cut before release, arguably improving the film.
