Synopsis by Michael Hastings
Originally broadcast on pay-per-view TV in 2000, this bi-costal simulcast concert brought together some of the most influential artists in rap for a one-time-only show of rhyming might. Rap Mania: The Roots of Rap took place at both the Apollo Theater in New York City and The Palace in Los Angeles, and featured sets from such performers as Sugarhill Gang, L.L. Cool J, Ice T, Tone Loc, and Kool Moe Dee.
