Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The Ranger was the third in a series of five westerns starring minor-league cowboy luminary Shorty Hamilton. On this occasion, Hamilton was cast as Scotty, a Texas Ranger working along the Mexican border. Receiving a tip that the editor of a small-town newspaper is actually a German spy (it was wartime, remember?), Scotty goes undercover, hoping to force the "Hun" to tip his hand. In the process, he falls in love with the editor's daughter, who unlike her dad is a True Blue, Red-Blooded, 100% American. An agreeable screen presence, Shorty Hamilton was nonetheless better suited to character parts than leading roles.
