Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In this relentless melodrama, not one of the unfortunate Boys on the Outside is able to make a go of it in a system which has been carefully arranged to prevent them from doing so. In painting this picture of life among the disenfranchised of modern-day Italy, the director has chosen individuals to act the parts who apparently come from the walks of life they are depicting, and who speak an obscure Italian dialect to boot. Merv Alessandro Di Sanzo) is a transvestite who earns a living by prostitution. However, when he comes to court for a hearing about charges filed against him for this, he receives an unusually harsh sentence. In another case, a young man who is attempting to support his family by peddling potatoes has his truck (and means of livelihood) confiscated because he can't produce one of the innumerable licenses he needs. He turns to selling drugs, is caught, and is put away for a long time.
